We have invited Laury Hammel to speak to us about our new Living Local organization and how to continue to grow its membership and influence in our community.
In 1988, Laury founded the Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN) and he is its Executive Director. The SBN has grown to almost 1,000 business members and several Local First business networks. In 2001 Laury co-founded the national organization called the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) and for the first six years he served as its co-chair. Laury is a frequent speaker about local sustainable economies, and is also the author of the book, Growing Local Value, which features over 20 local businesses that have made major contributions to their communities.Laury is the President and CEO of The Longfellow Clubs of Massachusetts. His business includes health and sports clubs, holistic health centers, children’s centers, and camps that serve 10,000 members. Honored by the Boston Globe as one of the top places to work in MA, Longfellow is a recognized industry leader in innovative business practices, environmental responsibility, and community service.
